Kate Fagan

I don't have any information on Kate Fagan other than that she was a member of Heavy Manners- an early 80s ska act from Chicago.

I found this in the .99 cent bin at Reckless years ago...overjoyed that I actually found it after repeated listens to "I Don't Wanna Be Too Cool" taped off the radio. "I Don't Wanna Be Too Cool" is definitely the stand-out track while "Waiting For The Crisis" is a quirky nod to Devo with clunky lyrics. Listen to that Mid-Western Accent!

wouldn't early-80s chicago ska have to be second wave? i think that first wave refers to the original 60s jamaican ska, but i could also be wrong.

Wow, I kinda thought I might be the last remaining fan (for whatever internal reasons I might have) of this song. Glad to know I was wrong (and that I don't have to put off making a digital encode of my single anymore). I have a Heavy Manners single as well by the way, but it's not blessed with the same charm at all.

Thank you sir.

Haven't thought of this for years, but somehow I've been singing it all day. I'm so glad you've posted this -- brings back great memories.

Awesome song! B-side is pretty good, too.

BTW, new wave is an accurate description.

Kate also sang with BB Spin, before joining Heavy Manners.

loved that Kate Fagan. The record you bought, was it a single, EP or LP?

it's really hard to find any information about her.

You will find only an australian folk singer with same name.

I have posted that "don't wanna be too cool" on the blog i'm beggining:

And here I reproduced what you wrote about her:

I sat next to Kate on a flight down to New Orleans last month. She looks and sounds great and says Heavy Manners still plays and tours in the summer season. You can see their webpage at www.myspace.com/heavymanners
